Your Private Sunset Experience

Travelling in a 2023 Mercedes-Benz V300 V-Class, your Blue Mountains sunset tour is built entirely around you. No crowded buses, no rigid schedules, no strangers sharing your vehicle — ever. Just your group, warm blankets, hot drinks, and a guide who knows exactly where to be as the light turns golden.

Whether you want to watch the sun descend behind the Megalong Valley from Cahill’s Lookout, photograph the floodlit Three Sisters after dark, or simply sit in silence at one of the most peaceful lookouts in the region — the evening is yours to shape. I accommodate up to 7 guests and the tour moves entirely at your pace.

When the Mountains Are at Their Most Magical

The Blue Mountains at golden hour are something most visitors never experience. The day trippers have gone, the car parks have emptied, and a stillness settles over the Jamison Valley that simply cannot be found during the busy daytime hours. The light turns amber, the air turns crisp, and the mountains reveal a side of themselves that belongs entirely to those who stay.

This is a seasonal experience running April through October — when earlier sunsets, clear winter skies, and crisp mountain air combine to create conditions that the summer months simply cannot replicate. If photography is your priority, I position the group at the most dramatic vantage points precisely as the light peaks — Cahill’s Lookout at golden hour and the floodlit Three Sisters at Echo Point after dark are extraordinary through a lens at this time of year.

Celebrating a special occasion? Ask about the optional sunset picnic add-on — champagne, canapés, and warm blankets at Cahill’s Lookout as the sun goes down.

Your Journey

Your evening begins with a personalised door-to-door pickup from your Sydney hotel in the 2023 Mercedes-Benz V300 V-Class — no meet points, no hunting for a bus stop. Departing at 12:00 PM, the drive west is part of the experience. The city gives way to the lower mountains gradually, and I use this time to talk through your interests and fine-tune the afternoon ahead.

A coffee stop in Glenbrook eases you into the mountains before we head to Sublime Point — one of the most spectacular and peaceful lookouts in the entire region, far quieter than the well-known spots. From there it’s into Leura village before arriving at Echo Point as the afternoon crowds begin to thin. The evening builds toward Cahill’s Lookout at golden hour — warm blankets, hot drinks, and the sun descending behind the Megalong Valley in a wash of gold and amber light.

Your Evening, Your Pace

The freedom of a private Blue Mountains sunset tour is straightforward — nobody is rushing you back to the vehicle. If you want to linger at Cahill’s Lookout as the last light fades, browse the galleries in Leura, or simply sit in silence at Sublime Point and take in the view, I wait. No timetables, no headcounts, no next pickup to worry about.

I start the evening with a framework, but it’s written in pencil not ink. The itinerary shifts around you — your mood, your interests, your energy levels as the evening progresses. The tour ends with dinner beside an open fire at a Katoomba pub — warm, unhurried, and the perfect way to close an extraordinary day in the mountains before the relaxed drive back to Sydney.

David was fantastic and taught us a lot including the Australian slang. He had tremendous enthusiasm and worked around Road closures and our very specific goals to accomplish a great tour. It was my brother who found Dave's website. We wanted a flexible Blue Mountain tour that can accommodate us instantly as we don't have enough time left in Sydney. Luckily Dave answered our inquiry right away. Private flexi tour went well, he arrived on time in our hotel, friendly guy and instantly he started giving us trivia about the places we wanted to see, he also suggested some places to maximize our day and see as many as we can.

My family and I, did the private tour with David. We found it very entertaining, enjoyable and informative. David’s local knowledge of the area was invaluable and helped us beat the crowds along with seeing the best vantage points of the blue mountains. David was very pleasant to spend the day with. We highly recommend this private tour.

Having had to wait nearly 3 years (Covid!) to visit Sydney, this tour with David was well worth the wait. He took us to hidden away gems to see amazing sights with very little in the way of crowds. The tour is very flexible and was planned totally around what we wanted to get out of the day. We would highly recommend Escape Scenes and felt it was very good value for money.

We only had a day in Sydney and decided to book this private tour to the Blue Mountains. We are so glad that we did! David, our tour guide and owner of Escape Scenes was fantastic. He is super flexible depending upon what you want to see and what is important. He adjusts the itinerary to meet your goals. We were able to see everything that was important to us without the headache of a large tour group. We would highly recommend this tour!
