Your Private Escape
Travelling in a 2023 Mercedes-Benz V300 V-Class, your Blue Mountains day is built entirely around you. No crowded buses, no rigid schedules, no strangers sharing your vehicle — ever. Just your group with a guide who knows these mountains intimately and, more importantly, knows exactly where everyone else isn’t.
Whether you want to beat the crowds at the Three Sisters, find a secluded waterfall, spend extra time at Featherdale Wildlife Park with the kangaroos and koalas, or simply take in the view from a cliff edge that no tour bus can reach — the itinerary is yours to shape. I accommodate up to 7 guests and the day moves entirely at your pace.
Beyond The Famous Views
The Three Sisters are iconic for a reason — but the Blue Mountains go far deeper than the postcard shots. Covering over 10,000 square kilometres of UNESCO World Heritage-listed wilderness, the range hides ancient rainforest floors, sandstone cliff edges, hidden waterfall tracks and lookouts that the big group buses simply can’t access.
If photography is your priority, I time the day around the best natural light at the most dramatic vantage points — no harsh midday glare, no crowds blocking the frame. And when it’s time to eat, I skip the tourist cafés and head somewhere actually worth stopping for — whether that’s a coffee on a cliff edge or a proper lunch in Katoomba village.
Not sure if a full day is right for you? I also offer a private Blue Mountains half day tour — a focused 6-hour experience covering the key highlights for guests with limited time.
Your Journey
Your day begins with a personalised door-to-door pickup from your Sydney hotel in the 2023 Mercedes-Benz V300 V-Class — no meet points, no hunting for a bus stop. My first stop is Featherdale Wildlife Park, home to an extraordinary collection of native Australian animals where you can get up close with koalas, hand-feed kangaroos and encounter wildlife you simply won’t find on a standard group tour itinerary.
The drive itself is part of the experience. As I head west from Sydney, the landscape shifts gradually — suburban streets giving way to eucalyptus forest, then the escarpment opens up and the mountains reveal themselves. I use this time to talk through your interests and fine-tune the day ahead, making sure every stop counts.

Your Day, Your Pace
The freedom of a private Blue Mountains tour is straightforward — nobody is rushing you back to the vehicle. If you want to linger at a waterfall, browse a village shop in Leura or simply sit and take in the Jamison Valley from a cliff edge, I wait. No timetables, no headcounts, no next pickup to worry about.
I start the day with a framework, but it’s written in pencil not ink. The itinerary shifts around you — your mood, your interests, what catches your eye along the way. You have full control over what we see and, just as importantly, what we skip.
I’d rather you leave having truly experienced three places than rushed through ten. Quality over quantity, every time.

A Glimpse of the Journey
From cliff edge lookouts and ancient rainforest tracks to wildlife encounters and village laneways — every stop is chosen around you. Whether you’re after an easy scenic drive or a proper hiking adventure through Blue Mountains National Park, I’ll build the day around your pace and fitness level. Here’s just a taste of what’s out there waiting.
FAQs
For most travellers, absolutely — and the difference is more significant than people expect. A standard bus tour spends the first 90 minutes circling Sydney hotels collecting passengers, rushes between the same crowded lookouts every other bus visits, and has you back on the coach before you've finished your coffee.
A private Blue Mountains tour with Escape Scenes means you're on the road immediately, visiting secluded spots buses physically can't reach, and moving entirely at your own pace. When you split the cost across a group, the price difference from a bus tour is often smaller than you'd think — but the experience difference is enormous.
Wild kangaroos aren't always easy to spot in the high mountains, so I usually recommend a stop at Featherdale Sydney Wildlife Park. It's the best way to get a hands-on experience where you can hand-feed kangaroos and see koalas up close.
If you'd prefer to try your luck in the wild, I know a few quiet spots in the lower mountains where they occasionally appear at dusk — spots that simply don't feature on any standard group tour itinerary.
If photography is your priority, I'll time the day to get the best natural light at the most dramatic lookouts across Blue Mountains National Park. Unlike a rigid group tour schedule, if we find a waterfall or a view you love, I simply pull over and we take our time.
Whether you want to do a 2-hour valley hike through ancient rainforest or just hop out for 5 minutes to get the perfect shot, the day moves at your pace — not a bus timetable. Have more questions about flexibility? Visit the FAQs page for more detail.
Mountain weather is notoriously unpredictable, and sometimes the mist just won't budge. If the main lookouts are completely socked in, I won't waste your day staring at a wall of white.
Because the itinerary is completely flexible, I can change the plan on the fly — whether that's finding a rainforest walk that looks spectacular in the wet, heading to different elevations where conditions are clearer, or restructuring the day entirely around what the weather allows. I'll make sure you get the most out of your day regardless of the clouds.
I usually head into Katoomba for lunch — far enough from the main tourist strip to avoid the big bus crowds, close enough to keep the day moving. I know some excellent local spots where the service is quick and the food is genuinely worth stopping for — from wood-fired pizza and authentic Thai to a quiet local pub perfect for a relaxed midday break.
We'll pick whatever you're in the mood for on the day without wasting the afternoon in a queue.
Pricing is based on group size and is designed to become better value the more people you bring. The tour is priced per group rather than per person, making it a genuinely competitive option when shared across a family or small group of friends.
Full pricing details are available on the booking page. I'm always happy to answer questions directly via the contact page or WhatsApp before you commit. I also offer a private Blue Mountains half day tour for guests with less time in Sydney.
The Blue Mountains are approximately 100 km west of Sydney — around 90 minutes in the car depending on morning traffic. I use the drive time productively, talking through your interests and fine-tuning the day ahead so every stop counts.
By the time the escarpment opens up and the mountains reveal themselves, you'll already know exactly what the day holds. It's one of those drives where the journey genuinely becomes part of the experience.
Private Blue Mountains tours are ideal for families with young children — and far better suited than a group bus tour. Because the vehicle and itinerary are exclusively yours, I can build the day entirely around your family's needs from the start.
Shorter stops, more breaks, slower pace — whatever works for your group. If the kids are loving a spot we stay longer. If they're flagging we move on. There are no other passengers to consider and no rigid schedule to keep.
Wildlife encounters at Featherdale, easy walks and wide open lookouts make it a genuinely enjoyable day for younger travellers without the pressure of keeping up with a tour group. Child seats are available on request.
Reviews
Excellent day touring the blue mountains. We saw the 3 sisters. Had many photos. Had a cider tasting stopped for little apple pies and saw spectacular views. David was fantastic and taught us a lot including the Australian slang. He had tremendous enthusiasm and worked around Road closures and our very specific goals to accomplish a great tour. Would definitely recommend going with David. Research ahead of time to see what interests you He even took us through feather dale personally. to see the kangaroos the wombats and even a crocodile Comfortable van also

It was my brother who found Dave's website. We wanted a flexible Blue Mountain tour that can accommodate us instantly as we don't have enough time left in Sydney. Luckily Dave answered our inquiry right away. Private flexi tour went well, he arrived on time in our hotel, friendly guy and instantly he started giving us trivia about the places we wanted to see, he also suggested some places to maximize our day and see as many as we can.

Hello David, a big thanks to you for your punctuality, your time spent with us as well your presence and generosity. Your trip been really well organized. We were pleasantly surprised about all your explanations about the blue mountains and wildlife in Australia, we had a great day, amazed and full of discoveries, surprises and memories out of too crowded tourists places. Hope to see you again for some great new adventures

My family and I, did the private tour with David. We found it very entertaining, enjoyable and informative. David’s local knowledge of the area was invaluable and helped us beat the crowds along with seeing the best vantage points of the blue mountains. David was very pleasant to spend the day with. We highly recommend this private tour.

Having had to wait nearly 3 years (Covid!) to visit Sydney, this tour with David was well worth the wait. He took us to hidden away gems to see amazing sights with very little in the way of crowds. The tour is very flexible and was planned totally around what we wanted to get out of the day. We would highly recommend Escape Scenes and felt it was very good value for money.

We only had a day in Sydney and decided to book this private tour to the Blue Mountains. We are so glad that we did! David, our tour guide and owner of Escape Scenes was fantastic. He is super flexible depending upon what you want to see and what is important. He adjusts the itinerary to meet your goals. We were able to see everything that was important to us without the headache of a large tour group. We would highly recommend this tour!
