Private Kiama and Southern Highlands Tour
One of my favourite drives on the whole coast
This loop takes in everything I love showing people — sea cliffs, a blowhole, green valleys, and some of the prettiest country towns south of Sydney. It's a full day, at your pace, with nobody else in the vehicle but your group.
I've been guiding private tours across NSW since 2009. On this tour, it's just you, my Mercedes V-Class, and a route I adjust as we go — more time at the places that matter to you.
Coast to country, in a single day
We start with a run through the Royal National Park, taking in the coastline from Bald Hill lookout before crossing the Sea Cliff Bridge and Lawrence Hargrave Drive into Kiama, where I'll show you the blowhole in full voice.
From there we head to Berry for lunch, then inland through Kangaroo Valley. I'll take you to Fitzroy Falls to see the sandstone cliffs of Morton National Park, then on to the historic streets of Berrima or Bowral. If time and weather are on our side, we finish at Mount Gibraltar for the best views over the Southern Highlands.
Departing Sydney, it's around 100km south along the Illawarra Coast before we turn inland through the valleys and hinterland of the Southern Highlands.

It's your group in the vehicle, and nobody else's. Worth noting: that flexibility does mean we may not reach every destination discussed if we're enjoying one spot more than planned — I'd rather you leave happy than clock-watching.

Your Journey
Your day begins with door-to-door pickup from your Sydney hotel in the 2023 Mercedes-Benz V300 V-Class — no meet points, no hunting for a bus stop. I head south through the Royal National Park, where Bald Hill lookout gives you sweeping coastal views before we've even reached the first major stop.
As I head south from Sydney, the landscape shifts — national park bushland opens onto the coastline, then the Sea Cliff Bridge carries you out over the water itself with Lawrence Hargrave Drive hugging the cliffs beyond. I use this time to talk through your interests and fine-tune the day ahead, from how long we spend in Kiama to whether Berrima or Bowral suits you better on the way home.

How far is Kiama and the Southern Highlands from Sydney?
Kiama is around 120km south of Sydney, with the return leg taking you inland through the Southern Highlands. On a standard group transfer this is a straight there-and-back drive, but on my private tour it's a full loop — coast, valley, and highlands — spread across roughly 10 hours.
Can you fit Kiama and the Southern Highlands into one day from Sydney?
Yes — it's a full day, but it works well as a private loop. Doing it yourself by train usually means choosing between the coast or the highlands, not both. In the Mercedes we cover the Sea Cliff Bridge, Kiama, Kangaroo Valley, and the highlands in one continuous run without the backtracking a self-drive day would need.
What's the best time to see the Kiama Blowhole in full flow?
It comes down to swell and wind, not the time of day — a strong southeast swell around high tide gives you the biggest eruptions, though it can put on a show in almost any conditions. I check the forecast before your tour and adjust the running order if the Little Blowhole further south is likely to be more active on the day.
